Billabong’s 5th Annual Design for Humanity set for Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Billabong is gearing up for their 5th annual Design for Humanity benefit, announcing a date of June 15 for the massive block party. Design For Humanity is Billabong’s charitable division that seeks to raise funds and awareness of worthy causes, all while celebrating art, music and fashion in the process.

This year’s beneficiary is The VH1 Save the Music Foundation, a non-profit “dedicated to restoring instrumental music education in America’s public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education.”

To date, the Foundation has provided more than $47 million in new musical instruments to 1,750 public schools in more than 100 cities around the country, impacting the lives of over 1.6 million children.

The event will be set in the heart of the legendary NY Street Backlot at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. The Backlot will recreate eight distinct areas of New York City for this outdoor block party. There will be two concert stages, a bikini runway fashion show, art show auctions, food trucks, multiple bars, live t-shirt screenprinting, street performers, tons of BARS, and live art installations. It will be a truly unforgettable celebration with 100% of all proceeds, including sales from the art show, live t-shirt screenprinting, food trucks and bikini collaborations, etc. to be donated to The VH1 Save the Music Foundation.

Legendary indie band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will be headlining this year’s event. In addition, coming off a HUGE tour with Florence and the Machine and massive success at SXSW, Hanni El Khatibwill be performing. Other acts include Los Angeles based duo LA Riots, and a disco house band from New York, The Hundred In The Hands.

Doors open at 7pm. The fashion show starts at 9:30pm SHARP with DJ Mark Moreno.

Hope to see you there! With your ticket purchase to Design for Humanity, you are helping to make an impact on the youth and keep music in public schools. Tickets are $30; $99 for VIP.
