We’re proud to introduce to you ambsn. Ambsn Clothing (pronounced “ambission”) is a surf clothing brand now based out of San Clemente, California. The line was launched in 2001 by brothers Dylan and Dustin Odbert as a fundraiser for their friend, Cameron Clapp, who was hit by a train losing both of his legs and right arm. The brothers started the brand as a way to help their friend’s medical bills, and soon after, ambsn began growing organically on the streets of San Luis Obispo when locals started bringing it to the street and local shops started taking notice.

In September 2005, ambsn officially debuted at the Agenda show in San Diego, CA showcasing its first ever collection of T shirts. Initial support and orders came from shops like Panchos, Central Coast Surfboards and Skatewarehouse.com. According to their site, “Ambsn immediately proved to these core surf and skate retailers that it was a viable up and coming brand, and from that point on, the ball began to roll.”

One year later, ambsn was recognized by the Surf Expo and Board Retailers Association (BRA) as one of “the top 10 up and coming brands in the nation,” and were awarded a free tradeshow booth at Surf Expo in Orlando FL for the January 2007 show. Both West and East Coast retailers noticed the publicity generated, and now it was a national brand.

Dick Baker, the CEO of Op and President of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association, (SIMA), took notice and started mentoring the boys and helping them develop the brand into a true business. With Dick’s encouragement, ambsn moved down from Central California to Orange County in order to be in the heart of the action sports industry.
