Have you heard about Save Our Seas? It’s one of top surfer’s Laird Hamilton’s favorite organizations and causes, and we think it’s pretty cool, too. Save Our Seas (SOS) (www.saveourseas.org) is an international Hawai’i based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization utilizing education and research to preserve, protect, and restore the world’s oceans for future generations.
Among some of the objectives of Save Our Seas include: 1) raise public awareness about the importance of the planet’s oceans in our lives, 2) educate citizens and key decision makers about managing human activities related to the oceans, and 3) encourage how each and everyone one of us can make a difference in ocean cleanup and preservation!
If you’re ready to jump on board and help out, there are many ocean “caretaker” activities promoted by SOS, so have a field day and pick and choose. Some include projects, research and cultural and educational events; others strengthen existing ocean networks, databases and information exchange; while still others promote law and policy development through oceans education.
As their site states, “culturally acceptable and scientifically proven solutions do exist.” Through investment in education and research, we can all help out and preserve our oceans, and strengthen our marine life and ecosystems. Let’s pay it forward!
