Meet SurfAid’s Founder at a Benefit Night for SurfAid on October 11th

A benefit night for SurfAid International is planned for next Thursday, October 11th. SurfAid is an international non-profit humanitarian organization whose aim is to improve the health, well being and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected through surfing. It was founded by Dr. Dave Jenkins of New Zealand in 2000. Dr. Jenkins will be at the event.

In 1999, Dr. Jenkins was on a surfing trip in the area and saw the health problems of the local people, which inspired him to establish SurfAid. After the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, SurfAid came to international attention since it provided medical aid to its victims. It was able to reach people on small islands, who were among the hardest hit, using small boats with people familiar with the area.

Now, SurfAid has earned several international awards, and receives donations of about $3 million per year from private and corporate donors, most involved in the sport of surfing.

In addition to founder Dr. Dave Jenkins who will be on-hand next Thursday, October 11, appetizers and light pupus will be served. There will also be a stand up paddle board and paddle (estimated value $1,000) and other surf gear up for raffle.
