Another year has gone by, but all our memories of Andy Irons remain as strong as ever. On this second anniversary of his passing (November 2nd) we celebrate his life and impact on surfing and all those who loved him for who he was. The entire Billabong family wishes to take a moment to join the surfing world in remembering one of the greatest surfers and personalities our sport has ever known.
Out of respect and acknowledgement of Andy’s legacy we continue to dedicate the Billabong Pipe Masters in his memory.
Billabong is also proud to announce the new global AI Forever collection for release in Summer 2013 in stores and online March 15, in the USA. Proceeds from the AI Forever line will go toward ongoing guaranteed support for Andy’s wife Lyndie and young son Axel.
Andy Irons continues to touch hearts and minds of so many in the surf community – “AI Forever” says it all!
Aloha, Andy with love.
– The Billabong International Family
The new AI Forever website — a tribute to Andy Irons — will launch on December 8th, in celebration of Axel’s second birthday and the starting date of the 2012 Billabong Pipe Masters: www.aiforever.com
We’re pretty stoked that Noll Surfboards just announced an exclusive collaboration with Billabong for Summer 2012. The new line by Noll Surfboards, the surf brand founded on epic big-wave pioneering and transoceanic aloha, is based on the historic surf lifestyles surrounding the original big wave legend Greg “Da Bull” Noll and his son, acclaimed surfboard shaper Jed Noll.
Greg Noll, known for his unrivaled bravado in giant waves in the 1950s and 1960s along Oahu’s North Shore, was the first surfer to establish a “trademark” look by wearing black and white striped “Jail House” trunks. The new line will have elements of this, and is designed to bring back the stoke of the Do-It-Yourself era when surfboards were carved by hand and California surfers created their own youthful look by blending Hawaiian Beach Boy style, Hot Rod culture and Beat Generation independence.
The apparel line will be in stores in March and will feature a ten-piece collection including board shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, walk shorts and a special run of 200 Limited Edition signed and numbered “Jail House” striped trunks that will be auctioned exclusively online starting March 22 through to April 4. Opening bids will begin at $200 and consumers will be able to bid on board shorts based on their size and signing number.
The Noll family has always stood for authenticity, and the styles, colors and cuts of the new surf wear line are all authentically shaped by the historic surf lifestyle that Greg Noll helped create.
While this partnership allows the Noll family to bring their ohana spirit to a much bigger hui of surfers, they will remain deeply rooted in the business of handcrafting one-of-a-kind wood and foam surfboards for both collectors and modern performers via their flagship store in San Clemente, California and online at www.NollSurfboards.com.
“I’ve always felt that surfboards are the cornerstone of surfing and the surf industry,” said Paul Naudé, President of Billabong North America. “We’re honored to be collaborating with Greg and Jed through Noll Surfboards, one of the most iconic surfboard brands in the history of surfing, in producing an eclectic line of cool product that will create a lot of excitement in the market this summer.”
Keep a lookout for the line, and don’t forget the bidding starts in a couple weeks.
From March 1 – 11, legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk will be auctioning off collectibles from his office to raise money for his charity, The Tony Hawk Foundation. Established in 2002, this charitable, non-profit organization has helped to create free, public skateparks for at-risk youth for over a decade, and now Hawk is offering a collection of personal belongings and other special items to help raise funds to build even more.
All the proceeds from the auction will go to the Tony Hawk Foundation. The Foundation has awarded $3,972,350 to 493 communities, and focuses on working with local officials and grassroots, community-based organizations that plan to hire designers and contractors with strong experience designing and building.
The special eBay auction will run until Sunday, March 11 at 7 PM (Pacific Standard Time). Some of the items up for auction include: X Games Champions’ Set, which is a special collection of 5 autographed pro skateboard decks from Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald, Shaun White, Buckly Lasek, and Pierre-Luc Gagnon, an autographed Michael Jordan Jersey, a Tony Hawk Prototype Doll Head, prototype Airwalk Shoes, five nights in Cancun, Mexico, a custom car, a super slick motorcycle, skateboards and trophies from Tony’s archive, a two-night stay at Hollywood’s famous Chateau Marmont, and tickets to televised tapings of “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent.”
There’s some pretty cool stuff, and all sales will help to build more skateparks, and other children-related charities.
Billabong is asking for photos to show why life is better in boardshorts, and it will help others, too. Billabong has teamed up with SurfAid International, the non-profit humanitarian organization whose aim is to improve the health, well-being and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. Tsunami relief, providing clean drinking water and reducing the affects of Malaria are all part of SurfAid’s daily mission.
For every photo shared, Billabong will donate $1 to SurfAid, and your entry also gives you the opportunity to win great prizes. Their goal is to gather 50,000 images to raise $50,000 for this great cause.
Weekly Prizes A weekly winner will receive boardshorts, towels, backpacks and other cool stuff.
Major Prize The best 50 images as judged by Billabong will come together to make a pair of LTD Editions photo print boardshorts. The owner of these top 50 photo’s will all receive a pair of these Boardshorts signed and number by Taj, Parko or Occy.
Ultimate Prize A trip to Bali for you and 3 friends.
