Looking to protect our coastal heritage and an excuse to party, too? Save The Waves Coalition, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of surfing coastline and the marine environment, will be throwing a “Beach & Bonfire Bash” the evening of September 24th. Hosts Kevin Hillyer & Tanna Frederick/Project Save Our Surf will head up the special celebration of coastal environmentalism to benefit Save The Waves Coalition and their World Surfing Reserves Initiative at The Beach Club in Santa Monica, CA.

The 2001 documentary, Dogtown and Z-Boys, is a must watch for any skateboarding fan. A true classic, this film, directed by skateboarding legend Stacy Peralta and narrated by actor Sean Penn, who once lived and surfed in the Dogtown area (Venice/ Mar Vista/ Santa Monica (south of Wilshire)), is a historical account of skateboarding in the 1970s, and showcases how a group of kids revolutionized the sport of skateboarding (and to a lesser extent, the surfing) culture.
